Keep-Alive
Data packets exchanged at regular intervals between two communication partners to check whether the connection is still alive. If the packet or the partner‘s reaction are missing, the other communication partner assumes that the connection is interrupted and takes appropriate measures (e. g. repeated connection attempt, timeout of the connection).
